About Us
1980s
Tooh Dineh Industries, Incorporated (TDII) was established in 1983 to provide much needed employment opportunities on the Navaho Indian Reservation. We began producing cutting and stripping blades for wire processing equipment in an unused Navaho Nation boarding school dormitory in the small community of Leupp, Arizona.
In 1984, TDII established a partnership with the Packard Electric Division of General Motors Corporation to produce electronic modules for GM automobiles. During the period of 1986 through 1990, major manufacturing enhancements were made. Manufacturing floor space was expanded by 30,000 square feet and component test and surface mount equipment was added. A fully integrated MRP II-based factory control system was also purchased to improve factory control and scheduling. We also began producing digitizer boards for the Kurta Corporation.
In 1989, we began production of a microprocessor traction control system for GM diesel electric locomotives and, in 1990, a power distribution module for Saturn cars.
1990s
A major shift in business strategy occurred in the 1990s. We became a fully independent “full service” contract manufacturing company. We diversified our consumer base by adding additional OEMs. Apple Computer contracted with TDII to provide repair and upgrade of their Macintosh computer field returns. We produced cable TV signal distribution systems for Scientific Atlanta and global positioning system prototypes for Litton Industries. We built external computer modems for Apple Computer and Global Village Communications and assembled a transparency adapter module for Hewlett-Packard digital scanners.
In 1996, Tooh Dineh Industries became ISO 9002 certified. A major upgrade to our internal MIS equipment and ERP system was made in 1998.
